Day 1 / Capitol #2
When I arrived in Albany, it was right around 4:00 p.m. The good news was that parking was plentiful but unfortunately, the capitol was emptying out since it was quitting time and a building loses a lot of energy without many people around.
The New York State Capitol is castle-like and something you’d expect to see in Europe. Its grand, stately architecture was even more obvious when one very helpful woman guided to me to what is called the “Million Dollar Staircase” built in grey stone and rising multiple floors, then to the carving of Abraham Lincoln’s face on one of the columns (along with dozens of other famous people). I recorded the Gettysburg Address out front alone (which was one of my first reality checks) and I was off to Vermont when darkness was falling.
