Day 5 / Capitol #12

It was late Sunday afternoon and streets were relatively when I arrived in Richmond and later than I expected, partially because of my stop on the way down at the National Museum of the Marine Corps where I spent an hour in its Chapel to reflect and pray.

This Capitol building rests on a hill surrounded by a large green lawn and wrought-iron fence and it doesn’t look like a traditional capitol building.  It more closely resembles the White House with its pure white color and six columns supporting a gabled roof for the middle section, and two smaller, matching wings on each side. It is also the only capitol building designed by a former President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson.  And though I’d find no statues of our 16th President, it was used in the soon-to-be-released Lincoln movie by Steven Spielberg.
