After planning it out for several years, an Illinois man is nearly done with a trip of a lifetime.
Mickey Straub has driven more than 11,000 miles in his attempt to see 50 state capitols in 50 days. He says he takes plenty of photos and writes a journal entry for each for each capitol he visits.
Straub has been driving an old Lincoln town car across country, with the exception of 2 flights to Hawaii and Alaska.
Straub says, “The trip from the very beginning was about principles and patriotism. And it quickly became about the people. The people are what kept me going. It was a lot tougher than I thought because you’re living out of your car mostly, it’s obviously staying in hotels but you have all your stuff in your care, like living out of a suitcase.”
His next stop is South Dakota. After that he only has a few more stops, he will end his journey at the capitol of his home state, Illinois.
